WIM DELVOYE (B. 1965)

Wim Delvoye is known for making works of art that blend seemingly disparate elements such as painting gas canisters and shovels with Delft Blue and most notably, tattooing stuffed pigs. In this work, the Belgian artist paints a coat of arms on a utilitarian ironing board. He confuses the viewer's initial thoughts on the found object by elevating it into an object of refinement and beauty. Wim Delvoye is not afraid to take risks with his work by playing with the tension usually apparent between opposites.
