LISA YUSKAVAGE (B. 1962)

Working with both the past and the present, Lisa Yuskavage has coined her own singular genre of painting. Baby KK is a work that blends classical painting with contemporary style as she depicts KK, her childhood best friend, in a sensuous, erotic pose. One notes the classical play of light in the room that KK inhabits, calling to mind an ancient religious scene. Yuskavage is interested in shock value and pushing the viewer to both appreciate and think beyond the somewhat crude nudity that occupies her works.
