PAUL JENKINS (1923-2012)

In watercolors by the Abstract Expressionist painter Paul Jenkins, colors seem to flow and undulate naturally throughout the sheets. To produce these seemingly natural images, however, the artist used an ivory knife to shape and manipulate the the way the colors fell. The rich blacks, pinks and yellows of this watercolor glide smoothly throughout the page, creating a "phenomena," as he aptly titles each of his works.
