Tasting note: Enormously impressive at two tastings back in 1979 and certainly one of my favorite ‘77s: Very deep red-black centre with purple rim. Despite appearance a sweet easy attractive wine on the nose and palate. Not tasted again until 1990 in the Symington tasting room in Vila Nova de Gaia. Still notably deep, purple intense. Low keyed nose with a strange scent that reminded me of bacon rind. Very sweet but lean with dry finish. Only one bottle tasted since. Though still surprisingly youthful looking in its 20th year, less sweet and I thought lacking flesh. Still very deep with opaque core, muffled fruit, touch of honey, very sweet attractive and piquant dry finish. Last tasted two notes November 2000. MB.
