CIRCA 1725, THE AUGSBURG DECORATION CIRCA 1730-35
Decorated in gilding at Augsburg in the Seuter workshop, each side with a vignette of Orientals at various pursuits within canopied tents, supported on diaper-pattern and scrolled supports, one figure seated on a chair inscribed 'B/D S’ (?), within a gilt band and foliate scroll border (flat chip to rim of cover, small chips to finial, some wear to gilding)
4½ in. (11.4 cm.) high

Specialist note

The deliberate inclusion of the inscription B/D S (?) concealed within the hatched ornament below a chair most likely refers to the Seuter workshop and the decoration may be the work of Batholomäus Seuter.
