Collection Brentano-Birckenstock, Vienna and Frankfurt am Main (Lugt 345); probably Johann Melchior von Birckenstock (1738-1809), Vienna; then by descent to his daughter Antonie Brentano, née Birckenstock (1780-1869); presumably her posthumous sale, Prestel, Frankfurt am Main, 16 May 1870 (and following days).
British Museum, London (Lugt 302), with the stamped acquisition date 1870⁄6/25; with their duplicate stamp (Lugt 305), initialled by John Kendall Rowlands, Keeper of Prints & Drawings, 1981-91.
