Specialist note

The reference 6239, introduced in 1963, was the first Rolex chronograph to carry the legendary Daytona name, but while the name is now embedded in the mind of all serious watch enthusiasts, it did not appear on all early models.

A fine example is the piece offered here. With its beautifully clean panda dial devoid of heavy servicing marks, attractively and evenly aged lume, longer hour hand and thin continuous second hand of the early series watches, the dial takes on an even more stark nature with its simple printing of only Rolex and Cosmograph.
