Specialist note

The Temple of Marius proved a popular subject for Dutch Italianate artists: it appears in a large number of their drawings. A drawing attributed to Jan Worst (active 1655-1686), which was previously in the I.Q. van Regteren Altena collection (Christie's, Amsterdam, 10 December 2014, lot 247), shows the same monument seen from the other side.
