CIRCA 1840
With curved single-edged blade with two small gold-inlaid marks on the back-edge at the hilt, regulation gilt-brass guard with crossed sword and baton within a laurel wreath on each side, ivory grip-scales, bullion sword-knot, and two scabbards, one of wood-lined brass, the other of black leather with elaborate gilt-brass mounts and signed 'TATHAM & SON / Charing Cross / LONDON' on the locket; together with a brown Russia leather belt with hanging-straps, three embroidered silver-thread bands, and gilt-brass mounts including buckle with applied silver-gilt 'VR' cypher, the inside with handwritten label named 'Lord Raglan'

Lord FitzRoy Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan (1788-1855).
Deposited with the Royal United Service Institution by Lt. Col. George Somerset, 3rd Baron Raglan, in 1895; removed by Major FitzRoy Somerset, 4th Baron Raglan, in October 1952.
