Circular, one side depicting the bust of Empress Catherine II facing right surrounded by the Russian inscription which reads: 'By the Grace of God Catherine II Empress and Autocrat of All Russias.', the reverse with Russian inscription 'For Bravery in Ochakov Waters June 1788', apparently unmarked

Specialist note

The medal was established in 1788 during the reign of Empress Catherine II to commemorate several victorious naval battles, which took place in the summer of 1788 in the lagoons surrounding the Turkish fortress of Ochakov situated on the western side of the rivers Bug and Dnieper.
The medal was awarded to sailors who took part in the victorious naval battles in the Ochakov waters between 7-18 June 1788.
