Edmé Bouchardon (Chaumont 1698-1762 Paris)

According to Edouard Kopp, this drawing was probably part of a series of drawings of the life of Christ that Bouchardon intended to have engraved. The artist treated the subject of the Rest on the Flight into Egypt in at least three other drawings, one formerly belonging to Mariette (P. Rosenberg, Les dessins de la collection Mariette. Ecole française, I, Milan, 2011, no. F521, p. 182), the other two in the Louvre (inv. 24299 and 24303).
