After the model by Antoine Coysevox, half-turned to his left, in a loose cap, his shoulders draped on a waisted shaped rectangular base, chipping and flaking to cap, edge of drapery at front and restoration to base

Specialist note

Matthew Prior, a diplomat at the Court of Louis XIV and poet, died in 1721 and was buried in Poets' Corner, Westminster Abbey. The tomb, designed by James Gibbs, incorporates Antoine Coysevox's bust of Prior presented by King Louis XIV.
