Specialist note

Reference 6205 is one of the rarest and most sought after Submariner models ever produced. It was only available in 1954 and 1955 and was made in very few examples only.

The model featured many new enhancements compared to its predecessor reference 6204, such as

- increased depth resistance of 100 meters
- larger crown (6 mm.) for better handling

The rarity of the present watch is further enhanced by its original lacquered dial and the gilt writing. Interestingly the only part of the dial which is printed is the Submariner model name, showing at what stage Rolex chose to name this model on a permanent basis. This reference 6205 is an extremely rare appearance at international auctions.
