Rolex. A fine and rare stainless steel self-winding water-resistant wristwatch with sweep centre seconds

Reference 6204, the first Submariner generation, was presented at the Basle Fair in 1954. It was available with two bezel versions, either without the minute graduation for the first quarter, like the present watch, or with the graduation for the first 15 minutes. The minute graduation became a standard feature on the model's successors.

The present watch is defined by its original and unrestored dial, for the first time mentioning the Submariner model name. However the depth rating has not yet been applied and only became a standard feature on future references. Originally designed as a tool watch it is by little surprise that such watch has seen an active life resulting in wear marks at the edge of the bezel and the loss of the original set of hands. Its charisma has only benefited and its appeal to collectors is as intact as it can be.
