Presumably by descent to William Colyear, 3rd Earl of Portmore (1747-1823), and by inheritance through his sister, Lady Juliana Colyear (1735-1821), wife of Henry Dawkins (1724-1814) of Over Norton, Oxon, and Standlynch Park, Wiltshire, to her grandson Rev. E.H. Dawkins (1794-1859), of Moggerhanger House, Bedfordshire; Christie's, London, 28 February 1913, lot 28 (680 gns. to Lord Curzon).

Specialist note

Elizabeth Colyear (1687-1768), daughter of Lieutenant-General Walter Colyear and niece of David, 1st Earl of Portmore, married Lionel Sackville (1688-1765), 7th Earl of Dorset, later created 1st Duke of Dorset, in 1708. She was a maid of honour to Queen Anne at the time of her marriage and later became first lady of the bedchamber to Queen Caroline. The couple had six children and her eldest son Charles succeeded his father as the second Duke of Dorset.
