Specialist note

The brothers Seif and Adham Wanly worked closely together in the same studio. On the surface, their work shows striking similarities, but on careful inspection, there are distinct differences. Adham's work was always rooted in the sensations from the world around him, an extension of impressionism and post-impressionism. Seif's paintings are more abstracted, geometrical and conceptual, anticipating tendencies in international contemporary art.
The brothers shared a fascination for music and dance. Their tastes were eclectic: folk and classical music, jazz singers and ballet dancers all appear in their paintings.
