The hinged oval top with a continuous sycamore band of ferns entwined with berried vinery above a frieze drawer and a sham drawer, on square tapering legs ending in caps and leather casters

Specialist note

The distinctive, delicate band of fern entwined with berrying vinery also appears on a pair of mahogany card tables which also share the same rosette and husk inlay on their square tapered legs (C. Claxton Stevens and S.Whittington, 18th Century English Furniture, The Norman Adams Collection, Suffolk, 1983, p. 327).

Clungunford house was built by the architect Edward Hancock from 1825-1828 for the Reverend John Rocke. His descendants were still living in the house in the 20th century.
