Specialist note

Lawrence Birks is recorded at Mintons producing masterworks in pâte-sur-pâte from 1872-1895 and is thought to complete the trio of assistants as stipulated in Solon's contract of 1871. Circa 1895, he left the firm to set up an independent workshop and is recorded producing pâte-sur-pâte works until 1917.
