CIRCA 1860
Cover depicting Rebecca at the well, base and sides with repetitive geometric decoration; together with a Victorian silver vesta case by Jane Brownett, London, 1885, with pull-out drawer with gilt interior, striker sffixed to front of drawer, inscribed C.R.S. from W.H.G. 1887; and a Japanese silver box with pull-off top, applied Chrystanthemum of Japan to cover and engraved with foliage
First box 3 in. long (7.8 cm.) (3)

The niello box was a gift to Albert Edward John, 7th Earl Spencer (1892-1975) from M. Harry Milner in 1913.
The Japanese box was the gift of Prince Fushimi of Japan (1875-1946) to Charles Robert, Viscount Althorp, later 6th Earl Spencer (1857-1922) in 1907, during the Prince's three years in Britain 1907-1910.
