Of tapering cylindrical form, ribbed scrolling handle, rim and base with floral border, body engraved with inscription Presented to Henry Lander Farnsworth by Mrs. William Lander. Nov. 8th 1846, marked on base, also marked Pure Silver Coin
3½ in. high; 2 oz. 10 dwt.

Specialist note

W.H. Calhoun (working c. 1835-1865) was trained in silversmithing in Philadelphia. He became Nashville's most prolific smith, also retailing silver from New York and Philadelphia. This cup, engraved with an inscription from 1846, is struck W. H. Calhoun, postdating the partnership of Calhoun and Flowers of 1840-1844.
