The Hunting Dogs
etching, circa 1641-78, on laid paper, watermark Strasbourg Lily in Crowned Shield, a very fine impression of the very rare first state (of three), printing with the plate impurity at the right edge, with inky plate edges, narrow to thread margins
Plate 154 x 137 mm.
Sheet 158 x 140 mm.

John Sheepshank (1787-1863), Leeds, Hastings and London (Lugt 2333); the collection sold in 1836 to Smith.
With William Smith (1808-1876), London; acquired from the above.
British Museum, London (Lugt 301); with their duplicate stamp (Lugt 305), with the signature of John A. G. Gere, Keeper of Prints & Drawings, 1973-1981.
Acquired in exchange from the above by the present owner.
