Attributed to Mattheus Derk Knip (Tilburg 1777-1847 Berlicum)

The inscription on the verso allows this farm to be identified as that named Piacenza, which stood on the Ouwerkerk estate in the region of Vught. The farm was built in 1820 by Antoni Martini, heer van Geffen (1791-1869), the son of Hendrik Bernard Martini (1768-1848) and it served as a country retreat for the Martini family until around 1848, when Antoni and his family made it their main residence. The farmhouse was completely rebuilt after the Second World War and little now remains of Piacenza as shown in this bucolic view.

In the 1988 catalogue, F. Kuyvenhoven suggested an alternative attribution to Mattheus Derk Knip's son Henri (1819-circa 1900).
