The present watch is a fine example of a first generation reference 16528, with what is known amongst collectors as a "floating dial".
A "floating dial" has the word "Cosmograph" with a clear distance from the "Officially Certified" line at the top of the dial. Later versions of the dial have the "Cosmograph" designation right underneath the other lines. Later versions also feature a bezel that is calibrated to 400 units, while the early versions, such as the present watch, feature a bezel that is calibrated to 200 units.
Rolex introduced the 16500 series of Cosmograph Daytona's in 1988, ending the period of hand-wound Daytona's and introducing a new series with automatic chronograph movements.
