The present watch is a beautiful and rare example of a Rolex Prince wristwatch in 14K white gold, displaying an attractive and eye-catching two-tone dial with enamel numerals and scales. This particular example is a Brancard model, the name deriving from the French word for "stretcher" and an allusion to the elegantly flared and curved sides. Reference numbers 971, 971A and 971U were encased in several versions comprising 9K, 14K and 18K yellow, white or pink gold, platinum, silver, stainless steel or combinations.

Prince wristwatches were produced between the late 1920s until the mid-1930s and are much sought-after by collectors as they are beautiful reminders of the Art Deco period. In period advertising Prince watches with their stylish rectangular cases of various designs were described as "The Watch for Men of Distinction".
