The collector's seal rong anju (peaceful home), belonged to Huang Junbi (1898-1991). Huang Junbi used this phrase in his signature and impressed his seal carved with this phrase onto works collected by him, mainly during his time in Guangzhou between 1927-1936, which was also concurrent to the time Qi Baishi painted this painting.
Qi Baishi often created paintings filled with well wishes to the receiver, such as this piece, Squirrels and Grapes. Squirrels are usually shown with grapes, as the former have great reproductive powers while the latter grow in clusters on the views, implying a wish for ceaseless generations of sons and grandsons.
