with Schoenemann Galleries, New York, where purchased by the grandfather of the present owners, 1940, as 'Titian'.

專家說明

The sitter of this portrait has traditionally been identified as Giulia Varano (d. 1547), Duchess of Urbino and wife of Guidobaldo II, based on comparisons with her portrait by Titian in the Palazzo Pitti, Florence. The present painting was attributed to Titian by Georg Gronau, Oskar Fischel and William Suida, independently (written correspondance with the previous owners, 1938- 1939).
