專家說明

This chair pattern with its serpentine front rail and scrolled legs is conceived in the 'French' manner and relates to a set of fourteen armchairs supplied to William, 5 th Earl of Dumfries (d. 1769), for Dumfries House, Scotland by Thomas Chippendale in 1759 (see C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, vol. II, 1978, p. 86, pl. 139). A pair of side chairs with similar frame and legs was sold anonymously, Christie's London, 24 November 2005, lot 98 (£7,200 including premium).
