The design for the clock relates to the work of the bronzier Jean-Louis Prieur and derives in part from a pattern of the early 1760s featured in the livre de desseins of Pierre-Antoine Foullet, ébéniste of the rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine (H. Ottomeyer P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 152, fig. 3.3.6).
