This is the only known vintage print of this image.
Within a few months of moving to Paris, Kertész made many portraits of Hungarian artist friends, including István Beöthy, Joseph Csáky and the present image of Noémi Ferenczy. A draughtswoman studying at the Gobelins tapestry works in Paris, Ferenczy designed tapestries incorporating traditional Hungarian folk style into her work. While this portrait, which was made in Kertész's room, does not draw direct reference to her avocation, the photographer's approach, using a special lens (a Hugo Meyer Plasmat Satz) and the sitter's active gaze, accentuate the technical aspect of her personality and art.
