專家說明
Hendrik Verschuring visited Italy between 1646 and 1654. The country inspired much of his production even after his return to the Netherlands. This drawing is close to the Bamboccianti's favorite subjects, in which the monuments of Italy's rich historic past are mingled with low genre scenes, where even the remnants of that past are gently satirized as in the depiction of the statue on the left. Two other drawings, in the same medium and of similar dimensions, can be compared to this sheet; they are dated 1687 and 1688. The first one is in the Teylers Museum, Haarlem (inv.no. Q.32; see M. Plomp, In Italiën geteekent, Haarlem, 1986, no. 43, ill.), the second in the National Gallery of Scotland (K. Andrews, Catalogue of Netherlandish Drawings in the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh, 1985, RSA. 91).
