專家說明
This elaborately finished composition, the figures emphasized with strong contours, is reminiscent of Rembrandt's pupils, particularly Carel Fabritius, who studied with Rembrandt in the first half of the 1640s. For similar drawings by Fabritius see P. Schatborn, 'Drawings attributed to Carel Fabritius', Oud Holland, 2006, 119, 2/3, pp. 130-38.
The subject is probably based upon the story of Joseph interpreting Dreams of the butler and baker from Genesis 40:1-20. Joseph is seated at the right.
We are grateful to Dr. Peter Schatborn for his assistance in attributing and cataloguing this drawing.
