Lima, Museo Mario Testino, Mario Testino: Alta Moda, 2013-2014 (another from the edition exhibited). This exhibition later travelled to New York, Queen Sofia Spanish Institute and Dallas, Dallas Contemporary.
This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
This photograph was first displayed in 2013 at MATE, the Museo Mario Testino in Lima, as part of the touring exhibition titled Alta Moda. This exhibition was the result of a five-year project investigating both Peruvian traditions and the history of photography.
Alta Moda showcased Mario Testino’s portraits of the local Peruvians within the mountainous region of Cusco, wearing festive attire. Peru’s traditional costumes appear to be as personal, handmade, exquisitely embroidered, conceived and dyed (and as rich in imagination) as the creations of the finest Haute Couture ateliers.
Mario Testino noted, ‘The vibrancy of the clothes expresses the intensity of the spirit of the people who wear them. I hope my images show how these traditions still exist in the present, at least for now.’
"My sensitivity towards cancer comes from the experience of both my parents dying of the disease, as well as my younger brother who succumbed to liver cancer when he was just 10 years old. I am very aware of how often it can spring out of nowhere and leaves one gasping and wanting more time to stay alive. Anything that makes these moments easier is invaluable and the support offered by Maggie’s is priceless. Anything I can do to help is little in comparison."- Mario Testino, 2020
