Tyler School of Art, Rome, 1973-1974. Solo exhibitions include: Serpentine Gallery, London, 1993 (traveled to Tate Liverpool); U.S. Pavilion, 49th Venice Biennale, 2001; Matthew Marks Gallery, Los Angeles, 2013. Group exhibitions include: American Art in the 20th Century, Martin Gropius-Bau, Berlin and the Royal Academy of Arts, London, 1993; Open Ends: Innocence and Experience, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2000; The Shapes of Space, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, 2007; Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture, National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C, 2010; From Death to Death and Other Small Takes: Masterpieces from the Scottish National Gallery of Art & D. Daskalopoulos Collection, The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, 2013. Winner of numerous awards including Artist's Space Honoree, Spring Benefit, 2002. He lives in New York.
