Specialist note

Preserved in generally very good condition, the present ref. 5335PT perfectly exemplifies Breguet's style and technique.

Part of the house’s Grand Complication Collection it is named in honor of Abraham Louis Breguet, his invention of the tourbillon patented on 7 Messidor year IX (26 June 1801).

This highly elegant horological timepiece features a pink gold tourbillon cage mounted between two sapphire crystals, giving the impression that it is suspended and not connected to the movement. The skeletonized cal. 558SQ2 movement is composed of entirely hand-finished components and has a power reserve of 50 hours.

The genius Swiss watchmaker based in Paris, Abraham-Louis Breguet is the mind behind many of the most remarkable and complex devices used in watchmaking, one above all: the tourbillon. In common with all tourbillon watches, the present watch is descended from the firm’s original invention patented on 26 June 1801 or on the 7th Messidor IX according to the Republican calendar still in validity at the time, to cancel out the negative effects of gravity to gain improvements in timekeeping.
