This canvas reproduces Canaletto's view of the entrance to the Arsenale, of smaller dimensions, in the collection of the Duke of Bedford at Woburn Abbey (see W.G. Constable, Canaletto: Giovanni Antonio Canal: 1697-1768, Oxford, 1962, I, pl. 53, fig. 271; II, pp. 324-325, no. 271).
