Specialist note
This attractive chronograph is distinguished by the so-called “Panda" dial (white dial with black registers), reminiscent of the “Panda” version of the Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona (see the last lot in this auction). Consigned by a private collector it is in very well preserved overall condition with clear numbers and writings to the outside case back.
The Compax chronograph was originally launched in 1937, featuring three subsidiary dials for constant seconds, 30 minutes and 12 hours registers. It was available in stainless steel and gold and with a variety of dial colours and designs. The case shapes evolved over the years, the present example featuring the elegant twisted lugs.
