This head study relates to the donor in the Virgin and Child Adored by a Married Couple now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris, which dates to van Dyck's second Antwerp period (see S. Barnes et. al., Van Dyck. A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings, New Haven and London, 2002, p. 259, no. III.18).
