Specialist note

Probably the eldest daughter of John Shore, 1st Baron Teignmouth (1751-1834), governor-general of Bengal and founder and first president of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and his wife Charlotte Cornish (d. 1834). Their first child, Charlotte, had been conceived prior to Shore's departure for India in April 1786, but he did not see her, or his wife, until he returned to England in April 1790. They went on to have another eight children, two of whom died in infancy.
