Produced in a limited edition of 75 pieces in steel and 75 pieces in steel and gold in 1999, the commemorative "Panama Canal" issue can be considered among the most restricted productions of Rolex modern history. It was created to commemorate the passage of the canal from joint Panamian-American management to exclusively Panamian; it features the logo of the Panama canal on the dial, and the limited edition number engraved to the case back.
The present example is one of the earliest pieces of the series, number 3, and it is furthermore offered with all of its accessories and in unpolished, close to as-new condition.
