Georges Jacob, maître in 1765.
Georges Jacob was one of the most celebrated and prolific menuisiers, whose workshop flourished in the second half of the 18th century. Although recognised mainly for his beautifully carved neo-classical furniture, he did produce some furniture in the Louis XV style early in his career, such as this pair of fauteuils en cabriolet canne. A set of ten similar fauteuils by Georges Jacob sold from a private collection at Christie's, New York, 20 May 2008, lot 294. One of a pair of very similar fauteuils is also illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIème siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 410.
