Moulded with leaf-shaped gilt-edged panels painted with vignettes of birds in landscape (minor wear to gilding, slight scratching to saucer)

Specialist note

An adaptation of the 'Calabre' shape the 'feuille de choux' cup and saucer was introduced in 1756 with examples dating from 1756 to around 1760-63. Most are decorated with a ground colour with the leaf-shaped reserves painted with either birds or flowers. For an example in the Wallace Collection see Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, London, 1988, Vol. II, p. 555, no. C371.

Etienne Evans was a painter of birds, animals and flowers, active at Vincennes and Sèvres from 1752 to 1807.
