By descent at Newtown Anner, Co. Waterford, through Sir William Osborne, 10th Bt (d.1824) and his sister, Catherine Isabella Bernal-Osborne (d.1880), to her grandson, Osborne de Vere, 12th of St. Albans (d.1964), great-great-uncle of the present owner.

Specialist note

Sir John was the second son of Sir Thomas Osborne, 5th Bt. (d.1715), who was knighted in 1679 and succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of a cousin in 1713. He was a member of the Irish Parliament for Lismore in 1719-27 and Co. Waterford in 1727-43 and consolidated his family's interests in that county.
