Specialist note

Tang Ping's abstract art is radiate sensibility and emotionality. His five-year studies in Germany in the 90's inspired him to transition from figuration to abstract expressions. Electrifying, full colours and moving dots and lines in a simple, spatial layout are a vessel through which Tan expresses his feelings. These ideas originate from the uncertainty in Tan's brushstroke - the direction of each stroke, and the relationships between simple colour blocks in the background in well balanced under Tang's practiced dexterity.

Tang chooses pure but strong colours to connect the mood of the piece with the space surrounding it. In Yi Jiang Mei, a Title for a Poem and Song, the overpowering red and dark green lines in the white blocks in the centre are as different as night and day. This two-dimensional space has become a place where ink and colours move along each other in a tango.
