A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE ARMORIAL PART-SERVICE FOR THE FRENCH-SWISS MARKET
QIANLONG PERIOD, CIRCA 1770
Each piece decorated with the arms of Cannac with coronet, within a band of gilt spearheads at the rims, comprising:
Four saucer-shaped dishes, 10 in. (25.5 cm.) diam.
Two soup-plates, 8 ¾ in. (22.2 cm.) diam.
Forty-two plates, 8 7/8 in. (22.5 cm.) diam.

Specialist note

This service was ordered for Pierre-Philippe Cannac (1705-1785) who was a banker, and settled in Switzerland having fled persecution in France belonging to what became known as the 'Second Refuge' (see A. Lebel, op. cit., 2009, p. 17).
