MARK OF WILLIAM CRIPPS, LONDON, 1756 and 1762
Each shaped oval and with ribbon-tied reeded shell and scroll borders, engraved with the Royal arms flanked by initials 'GR' and later engraved with a crest with the Garter motto beneath marquess' coronet, each marked underneath, one engraved with scratchweight '24=11'
12.1/4 in. (31.2 cm.) wide
47 oz. 3 dwt. (1,467 gr.)
The Royal arms are those of King George III (r.1760-1820).
The crest is that of Stewart, probably for Charles, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry K.G. (1778-1854).

Probably either Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh, Later 2nd Marquess of Londonderry (1769-1822), or Charles William Vane, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry (1778-1854) and by descent.

Specialist note

The present lot was part of six twelve inch oval-shaped reed, tie and shell meat-dishes used as part of an extensive silver dinner service.
