The rectangular top with three quarter gallery above an undertier with a drawer, on square supports, labelled 'GEORGE SIMSON/ UPHOLDER/ CABINET MAKER AND UNDERTAKER/ NO. 19...LONDON', the drawer handles later, with an associated part wash set by Minton, circa 1900, comprising of a chamber pot, ewer and basin printed in green with the crowned GR monogram for George IV

Specialist note

George Simson is listed at 19 St. Paul's Churchyard, London, from 1780 - 1839, yet for such a long-lived business, little is known of his customers. There were payments from the 2nd Viscount Palmerston and a bill dated 13 February 1809 is in the accounts for Gorhambury House, Herts (C. Gilbert, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660 - 1840, Leeds, 1986, p. 817).
