earthenware, modelled with four polychrome decorated peacocks against a cream ground, the pedestal moulded and pierced with flowerheads
68 in. (172.7) cm. high

Specialist note

Only five versions of the present vase were ever produced, each in varying colours. One was exhibited as the centrepiece of the Rörstrand stand at the The General Art and Industrial Exposition of Stockholm in 1897 and then at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle (shown here), and is now in the collection of Malmö Museum, Sweden. Two further examples are in the Rörstrand Museum and another was in the grounds of the house belonging to Robert Almström, managing director of Rörstrand, but was subsequently destroyed by frost. The present lot is the only remaining example not held in a museum collection.

Christie's would like to thank Bengst Nyström for his assistance with the cataloguing of this lot.
