With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated 19 December 2012, Attestation, setting pin, sales tag, product literature, instruction manual, leather wallet, leather portfolio, fitted slip case, fitted presentation box and outer packaging.
The present example is fresh to the market, still factory sealed and therefore has never been worn, nor taken out of its original packaging. Furthermore and according to our research, the present lot is believed to be the only known example of a reference 5396 in white gold retailed by Tiffany & Co. to appear at auction thus far. Highly charismatic and appealing, this limited series of 100 pieces only was made especially for Tiffany & Co. in New York, offering a bold yet classy look with its black dial and elegant Breguet numerals and is already a "must-have" for many collectors.
Reference 5396 was introduced to the market in 2006 and pays tribute to the firm's celebrated Calatrava model, launched in the 1930s. The smooth white gold case is of the distinctive, classic round Calatrava style of reference 96 and stands out by its large size. The appealing graphic design of the dial is inspired from a late 1930s historical "Calatrava" wristwatch, on permanent exhibition at Patek Philippe's prestigious museum in Geneva. With its double railway track scale this well-proportioned two-tone silvered dial adds a subtle technical flourish to reference 5396 which furthermore differs from the other annual calendar models by its striking new design: for the first time, this patented mechanism features twin in-line day and month apertures beneath 12 o'clock.
With its modern yet ageless design, reference 5396 immediately became a classic amongst collectors.
