Humorously carved, standing, with rose-cut diamond-set eyes, supporting a gold turret enamelled in white and red, with bands of rose-cut diamonds around the turret and under base, the interior carved out with a circular reserve, marked on turret
1.5/8 in. (4 cm.) high

This gold-mounted hardstone elephant by Fabergé was one of the gifts presented by Emperor Alexander III and Empress Maria Feodorovna to members of the Danish Royal family, during the Imperial state visit to Copenhagen in August 1893. It was later entered into the ledgers of the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty on 15 November 1893, costing 165 roubles.
