Richardson had a long association with University College London and executed numerous designs for buildings and alteration throughout the first half of the 20th Century. In March 1919, he was appointed Professor of the prestigious Bartlett School of Architecture (then part of University College London); a position he held until his retirement in 1946.
Richardson's first design for the University was for the Anatomy Building in Gower Street in 1922. The following year he designed the Darwin buildings (illustrated) which were not built until 1959-64, in a much more simplified form. In 1930 he designed the Department for Chemical Engineering; in 1937 the completion of the Wings of the College (illustrated) and in 1938, the side gates to Torrington Place.
